Review of Transformers: Rise of the Beasts (2023) by Infrarecon — 12 Jul 2023
Another brutal movie to rate, I like Transformers and this has some good action but a lot of elements ruin it.
So let me get right into it, the music choice was bad, the plot and story were meh, and the dialogue is mostly meh and sometimes out of place in some scenes.
Paramount, and Hasbro, there was a much easier way to do a Transformers film. Cybertron War should be the main focus, Humans in a film about transformers ruin the whole point of the movie, and while yes the main human protagonist is a good character overall, his plot just gets in the way. Yes, I see they wanted you to relate to him, just like you would do optimus prime but wouldn't it be better if the focus was just Prime and his struggle to protect his Autobots from being hunted down while they try to get home?
For fans of Transformers, if you haven't played the Cybertron games, I highly recommend Transformers: War of Cybertron & Fall of Cybertron, those succeed the Transformers lore in every way.
Now for the music, wtf is this music doing in here, rap really? Look I'm all for rap music, I like rap. But here it's just wrong. Cinematic music needed to be used for the final fight scene, I was going to give a 7/10 for this film.
The film started doing cool things but lost my interest and flow of the film when rap music starts playing, am I supposed to listen to the song or just keep watching? What's going on?
Now the good bits of this film are the action scenes excluding some slow-mo, "Look it's a missile omfg" moments. Again I will say it again, ACTION SCENES NEED TO BE TENSE AND SATISFYING.
The only purely satisfying bit of this film for me is when Optimus is fed up with fighting Bad Teracon Number 1.
Ratings Roll out:
Visuals: 10/10, Very nice visuals, I like the designs, that old gen look works well, though there are some spots with Optimus Primal that are bad looking. And Optimus Primes' mouth is weird looking.
Story & Plot: 6/10, What is better than saving one world? How about 2 worlds, ba dum tss.
Characters: 6/10, they are all OK, nothing special here.
Pacing: 7/10, Not too bad, it felt Vast.
Music: 4/10, Get your composer to make some Action filled music, rap is incorrect here.
Micheal Bayness: 7/10, What's this you may ask? This is how I rate action in a Transformers film, yes I know Micheal Bay was not involved, it's just a fun thing to have, and to be honest what he did was superior action compared to this film.
6/10, It's entertaining, not really something you'd watch immediately but it's enjoyable, there is a lot of broken logic in this film, stuff that just doesn't make sense even for fiction.
As a gamer looking at this film makes me really want a Transformers game. Let me guess you'll say "What do you mean? There was a Transformers game just the other month".
No, I want a Full AAA-budget Transformers game that takes the franchise to new highs.
Imagine Warhammer: Space Marine 2 gameplay, mixed with the Cybertron games, I would pray to a game like that.
I dunno, Hasbro Executives should stop trying to make the cheapest thing on the market for chump change and start respecting their licenses.
Or I will do it myself.
Anyway, that's all, have a good day. Hopefully, one-day Transformers fans will rejoice for watching a good film and playing a game based on the Transformers Universe.
But as a final note, Remove the humans, Kill them all actually, and don't try and copy other films. Yes, we noticed, Avengers Endgame, nice try.
