Review of Transformers: Age of Extinction (2014) by James S — 17 May 2015
Marginally better than the recent Transformer movies, although that was never going to be a particularly difficult task. The action scenes are typically Michael Bay, although nowadays this is nothing we haven't seen before.
Slow motion sequences, explosions and 'drama' also seem to appear constantly, leaving little time for any true storyline to develop. Casting Wahlberg was an interesting move, drastically deferring from the previously frightened and practically useless Shia LaBeouf.
Whilst I still do not rate Wahlberg as a particularly good actor, it was pleasant to see our lead character wielding a weapon, and generally making himself useful. Acceptable for a Saturday night action flick, but not much more.
