Review of Transformers: Age of Extinction (2014) by Anthony F — 18 Jun 2015
In order to grasp this "film", I had to visit its own Wikipedia page and read the plot description, which itself was pretty taxing. Not due to complexity, mind you, but rather due to a total absence of pacing, exposition or anything resembling comprehensibility.
It doesn't help when the dialogue that drives this 2 hour and 45 minute "film" is pre-pubescent, juvenile and completely inane. You'd think that the admittedly stunning CGI engulfing this "film" would make it easier to digest, but it doesn't.
You would think that watching it in 45 minute increments over 3 days would help too. Nope. I even thought to myself, "perhaps I'm over analyzing. It's a movie for kids". Then I remember hearing the once noble Optimus Prime yell "I'm gonna kill you!" to his opponent (I think it's name was Galvatron) before attacking.
Children would be better off playing with the toys and making up their own stories. I also couldn't help thinking back 8 years ago when Michael Bay delivered the first Transformers flick. While it was far from masterpiece territory, it certainly was tantalizingly promising (and the only one of the 4 with a coherent story).
How this "film" managed to gross over 1 billion dollars worldwide during its theatrical run is beyond my understanding.
