Review of Transformers (2007) by Eric T — 28 Dec 2013
Though its effects are towering, Bay's take on the 80s icon is about as pedestrian as pedestrian can be. Shifting the focus from the titular beings to a nerdy LeBouf and his 'wacky' day to day problems tries, but fails, to replicate a very Spielbergian trope of seeing the extraordinary through normal and relatable eyes.
This isn't assisted by a routine, brash score from Bay regular Steve Jablonsky that is stuck between Zimmer & Williams, or cluttered action scenes that don't take advantage of the giant mechs' obvious screen potential.
