Review of Transformers (2007) by Mike T — 19 Jul 2014
Slightly boring and a little overhyped and redundant in the modern era of ridiculously creative filmmaking. This silly explosive fun little flick was pretty and unreal when it came out, but is slightly trashy in the more sophisticated modern era.
It's still one of the most fun ever, but not really that good. But it's fun if you want to be a dinosaur and watch explosions, knowing full well that you have access to 200+ more higher quality movies at your disposal, but choose to still respect Transformers for Nostalgia's sake.
There are hundreds that are better than this original that started it all, simply by being edgier and more surprising, but there is nothing wrong with a formula action/comedy movie. In 2007, this was considered high art, and was untouchable at the time.
It still is a very different movie and stunned the world with it's quality and sophistication back in '07, but something about that summer wasn't right. I guess this is one of the greatest of the modern era, and certainly at a level of sophistication that I am incapable of seeing with my own eyes and brain.
