Review of Transformers (2007) by Jamie I — 26 Jun 2016
Okay, I'll admit I was all about Transformers in the 80s. I always liked boy stuff better than girl stuff anyway. I am a Generation 1. But I was not happy when I heard all the hype of this so-called Transformers movie. It was a sure fire way for Hollywood to wreck something near and dear to my heart. .
Sure you see action from the start. After all this is a Michael Bay film. But cut the crap okay. That's not what you came for. You came for fucking Transformer action. Optimus Prime doesn't hit the screen until about an hour into the flick. When he does, however, so do the other AutoBots and that's when the real Transformer shit starts. Peter Cullen reprises his (voice) role as Prime which I think is as fucking cool as you can get. And the Decepticons are bad (as in evil). Really bad. Megatron clocking in at 1:45 is voiced by Hugo Weaving. Now if Weaving didn't exceed the maximum level of cool for V for Vendetta, he sure does here by voicing Megatron. The design of Megatron for the film (unlike any seen in Transformer land) is scary. I think this further personifies his wickedness. In fact all the Decepticons are dressed with sharp lines and razor edge claws. One thing I didn't like was when Bumblebee changed from a classic Camero to a new Camero. That wasn't necessary. Come on! Many of the scenes with Bumblebee tugged at my heart strings. I guess you'll just have to see it. Another thing I didn't like was some of the transformations focused on one part or section of the transformer and we didn't get to see the whole thing. I suspect that was for budget purposes. You'll recognize many a familiar face in this flick. Zach Ward (who I'm certain has some death clause in his contract) eats it pretty early on. Shia LaBeouf is the star of this flick (you know aside from the Transformers). The dialogue is hilarious. I still don't get all the animosity toward Michael Bay. You'll notice Josh Duhamel (of course you will he's nice to look at) and Tyrese (also nice to look at). See Jon Voight do nothing action packed at all! And John Turturro plays a wacky Sector 7 agent! Recommended.
