Review of Transformers (2007) by Ryan H — 13 Jun 2017
It may suffer from the bad reputation of its sequels, but Transformers is a surprisingly fun, intense, and entertaining film. The CGI is incredible, the majority of the action is well-shot and easy to follow, and Shia LaBeouf and Josh Duhamel both give strong performances, even if LaBeouf does ham it up a little every now and then.
However, the first robot fight between Bumblebee and Barricade is poorly edited and doesn't show enough of the actual fight, instead merely implying one. That being said, the film benefits from not taking itself completely seriously, and the fun, slightly campy tone works well.
I especially appreciate that the film actually takes the time to establish which human weapons can actually hurt and kill Transformers and which ones just annoy them. All in all, this is a very well-made action film, and one of Michael Bay's best.
