Review of Transcendence (2014) by Brent T — 12 Aug 2014
While I'll admit to be being struck in theological and metaphysical ways (the film led me to ponder some things), the film just sort of fizzles on many levels. First, it is just too short. The director didn't take enough time to establish his lead characters.
The result is lack of empathy or understanding for the protagonist, jumbled action scenes, a confusing plot and an unsatisfying ending. Second, and I saw this film because of his presence, we see the worst of Johnny Depp's flat, withdrawn, emotionless, dull acting.
Morgan Freeman is utterly wasted in a part relying totally on caricature of 20 other movies he's played in. And the rest is a disaster of miscues by a casting director. The result is a crappy film that is certainly not a "Sci-Fi Thriller.
