Review of Transcendence (2014) by Bradley C — 28 Aug 2014
(59%).
Without doubt it's a flawed movie. The pace never gets beyond third gear, there's no sense of fun to anything, and there's nothing that hasn't been done before. But I still kind of liked it. First of all it looks great, everything throughout is very well shot with hardly a bad frame anywhere. The plot is actually very simple, and it's told fairly well without it ever feeling the need to overcomplicate things for little or no reason. And I like the fact that it took a bold move in not being a Michael Bay style big explosionathon, that ideas about both the dangers and benefits of advanced science are equally looked upon, and like real life the movie doesn't really depict a good or a bad side, you really can be neutral as you watch like a sports match with no favourable side. I can see why people don't like this and why it flopped, but other movies get away with much, much worse and bring in a fortune. It's just the way it goes.
