Review of Transcendence (2014) by Beautifulminds — 09 Jul 2014
Realistically, I would score this movie anywhere between a 7.5 and 8.0. For comparison sake, I've scored 'Her' 9.0-9.5.
It's a great movie. The movie touches on very real scenarios. Coming from a computer science background, I assure you, scenarios like these will not always remain science fiction.
Like 'Her', Transcendence also attempts to break the misapprehension that artificial intelligence is intrinsically malevolent. Humans are arrogant, and foolish. By that I refer to the innate need to glorify the human brain whilst simultaneously/illogically denying the simple fact that human biology is not the only path to sentience. To conciousness, self awareness, emotion, intelligence. There's nothing inherently special about the human brain that couldn't be replicated in other mediums, including digitally.
The movie also features superb acting and great visual effects.
