How about we transcend crappy screenwriting? This is what happens when someone in Hollywood who has probably never used a computer reads an article about the singularity. 'Upload his conciousness' check.
'Take down the meglomaniac AI with a computer virus' check. This is a cliche burrito cooked up by people who clearly have no personal understanding of the science they are tackling. Hack storytelling topped off with a big scoop of techno-retardation.
