Review of Transcendence (2014) by Julian F — 08 Aug 2018
This film tries to present a zeitgeist for the curiosities of the digital frontier but snuffs it all with a love story an audience can't be bothered to empathize with, a friend and collaborator that goes against his past allegiances.
This star studded cast - and I mean the cast is dense - with minor characters having VERY recognizable actors in their shoes, fails to actually explore any of the film's real concepts. Like a loose freight train this movie plows ahead and tries to help us keep up by "telling us" rather than "suggesting to us" all of the ethical implications.
Good and bad are stated so plainly that the twists of the film are stale and borish. This film is hard to watch without feeling like time is being wasted, time we should've spent doing what the film seems to promote: life unplugged *queue suspenseful synth* ....
