Review of Transamerica (2005) by Paul K — 30 Mar 2008
Within the first 5 minutes you forget about Desperate Houswives' stress Mom.....and step into the world of Bree...grasping with her fake pink nails ,the final part of her transition into womanhood, only to have it pulled from her grasp when her ("stanley's") previously unheard of son get's in touch.
The result is an in turns moving and funny road trip from coast to coast.
Felicity Huffman is a joy to watch surrounded by a top-notch cast, and aided by a sharp weel written script; at no point does the story labour the whole transexual-gay-alternative-lifestyle 'issue'.....it doesn't have to. this film is about acceptance, but note , at NOT ONE POINT in the film is Bree treated badly by the outside world, this is a drama of the family and the acceptance we all crave whatever that may be FROM THOSE CLOSEST TO US.
Oh and Kevin Zegers, is f....ng HOT.
