Review of Transamerica (2005) by Danielle - — 02 Jul 2008
It's not just a story about transsexuality. What's great about it is that it's actually universal in that it's a road/quest story where one tries to be more comfortable in one's skin, to love oneself and then others (i.e - son). This story is set in front of the backdrop of transsexuality. And like quest stories usually end, the stated goal is not attained but those involved change in a profound way.
Felicity Huffman was great in her role. The make-up was very well done: she looked like a man trying to be a woman when she is in fact a woman. And her commitment to this project is amazing. She spent 45 minutes each day doing vocal warm ups to lower her voice down a few octaves. Great performance and truly deserved an Oscar nomination. And man has Kevin Zegers changed since his Air Bud days. He's become a promising young actor.
