Review of Transamerica (2005) by Josh C — 08 Apr 2009
Um, how did I not know that the lead character was actually played by a woman? Incredible acting on Huffman's part.
Definitely not a topic that gets much mainstream attention and I thought the direction and writing handled it with a lot of grace, dignity and beauty. I especially like how the underlying theme of transsexuality is not the sole focus of the film, but weaves in and out of the different scenarios the characters find themselves in from the practicalities of being "stealth" to the humor of everyday life. There was a really solid supporting cast, each offering a little quirk or twist to show you how the two main characters lives had come to be how they are.
