Review of Transamerica (2005) by Alex T — 26 Apr 2010
This sounded like an interesting premise. It's beautifully filmed, but it ends up a little Hallmarky. There's very little conflict in the movie, and the conflict that does exist is relatively minor, making the massive character development a little tough to swallow.
The funny moments are genuine, though, and you do get to experience a little of the discomfort of the protagonist. But most scenes where Bree has to come to terms with her transexuality seem to end up saying (spoiler alert) that middle America is just peachy with the idea, which I seriously doubt.
Kudos for making Felicity Huffman look mannish.
