Review of Transamerica (2005) by Paul P — 11 Nov 2011
It's a shame there aren't that many serious dramas about transsexuals, because this particular one was masterfully done. Most of the credit goes to Felicity Huffman, who shined as pre-op male-to-female transsexual, Bree.
She definitely deserves all the accolades she's gotten for her performance. Despite the extra-ordinary premise, this movie was surprisingly down to earth. It was great to see transsexuals being humanized instead of just as sterotypical jokes.
Like Brokeback Mountain, I think this film is a great boon not just to the GLBT community, but the cinematic community as well.
