Review of Transamerica (2005) by Ruben A — 14 Mar 2012
An above average and well rounded road-movie with hints of comedy and drama.
I have no qualms with subject matter in any film, stories must be told, but why is it that, as in this case, Bree (Felicity Huffman) a transgender has to have a complete fuck up as a son for starters just because she's transgendered? That's basically the only downside to this film. Yes, maybe her family must've been messed up, but giving an orbit of misfits surrounding the main character all the time just because she's different doesn't really help.
Nevertheless it's an outstanding piece of work on Felicity Huffman's part and a couple of other actors in between.
Road movies are about discovery and this surpasses the traditional American road flick.
