Review of Traitor (2008) by G C — 04 Sep 2009
While most movies in modern Hollywood are too simple, Traitor was nearly too complex. It however rescued itself with a basic yet clever ending.
Cheadle was tremendous and the premise, post 9-11, was well done. Granted, it might've been a bit myopic and overstated, but still. For the better part of this movie, I actually believed there was a possibility that Cheadle would or had defected, perhaps I was just looking for suspense, but it seemed plausible.
The depth used to examine the jihadi's views was also interesting. Yeah, part of it was rather cliche, but that was an inevitability. The ending did wrap itself up very tidily, maybe it was too neat. I though was plenty satisfied. If you want actual suspense that won't completely beat you over the head or preach excessively, give this a shot.
