Review of Traitor (2008) by Mark B — 23 Apr 2009
They need to give Don Cheadle better roles. Get him an oscar with Hotel Rwanda 2 or something. Something really good cause he's a good presence on screen. Didn't like him in this though.
The writing wasn't the greatest. I guess the director (Jeff Nachmanoff) was also the screenwriter. I'm luke warm to it at best. Dude wrote 'The Day After Tomorrow' screenplay, which is the only thing I've seen of his work. Meh. Again. Lukewarm.
There's good in the flick. Lots I learn about the religion of Islam, which apparently means 'To submit or surrender to the will of God.' Did not know that.
There some sore spots for me too.
They call Halifax Nova Scotia the ass end of Canada. Coming from the albino dude Neil McDonough, who is from not-so-far-away Dorchester Massachusetts, that's a bit of a slap in the face.
Casting an Englishman like Guy Pearce as the 'straight arrow' FBI dude chasing Cheadle felt kinda weird. Sorta expected him to drop the accent and whip out the epee from Count of Monte Cristo.
"They found a money trail for the Semtex used in that bomb blast? Bullocks. Shiver me timbers and let me have at the count and his treasure. Where's my time machine?".
I thought The Kingdom with Jamie Foxx did the same job a little better.
Both are worth watching. If you only can have one go with the Kingdom.
