Review of Traitor (2008) by Sam W — 20 Jun 2009
Now here is a smart, smart movie. Through the entire thing, you can never be entirely sure whose side anybody is on, which makes for a taught, exciting, and harrowing ride to the finish. But it never feels gimmicky, and the viewer never feels cheated; there are no "aha!" moments that subtract from the carefully-layered plot.
The players are all excellent (especially the great Don Cheadle), the mood and pacing are expert, and the final twist is guaranteed to blow you away (literally)! What truly elevates this movie above most other cloak-and-dagger espionage flicks is its focus on religion, violence, and ethics, and how all three work to shape the choices we make.
..thought-provoking stuff.
