Review of Trainwreck (2015) by John H — 15 Feb 2016
As with most of Amy Schumer's work, I think that she does an excellent job surrounding herself with funny people although she's not that funny herself. I guess that can be seen as a strength when the supporting cast is strong enough to carry a movie.
It's hilarious, heartfelt and does a great job humanizing a functioning alcoholic without making her seem like a hyperbolic train wreck (no pun indented). Some of the moments don't work and kill the illusion of an otherwise grounded comedy (the dance number finale in particular), but overall it's one of Apatow's strongest works.
7.5/10.
