Review of Trainwreck (2015) by Rob O — 11 Dec 2015
The first half is amusing but the second half was neither funny or good story telling. First off, she works at a magazine in NYC. Pretty cliche. She's an awful person with no redeeming qualities, so it makes no sense that a successful doctor would be interested in her, especially considering he's Mr.
Perfect and she pushes him away at every opportunity. If the genders were flipped, this movie would have flopped so hard. Everyone would have said, "Why is that man being so abusive to that woman? Why would we root for him?" I mean imagine a movie where a guy is always sleeping around, then he meets a girl who wants to settle down, but he doesn't want to.
Then he's a dick to her about it and says "Why don't you just go be with someone who wants that stuff?" after walking out on her important speech to smoke weed in the hallway. Plus, Judd Apatow once again doesn't know how to leave things on the editing floor.
There's a scene where Lebron gives him an intervention that is unfunny, unrealistic, and does not move the plot along.
