Review of Trainspotting (1996) by Gavin P — 24 Oct 2013
Pretty bleak - it's certainly not a fun film to watch. I found myself clenching my jaw on a number of occasions - no-one likes watching people shoot heroin, particularly in close up. It's certainly a good cautionary tale for drugs, but the main problem is that all the stupid decisions are because the characters don't care.
All 'Rents' has to do is get away from the stupid/negative, but it takes him so long to do so! The hallucinations were a bit unnecessary and the whole British crime drama was probably done better shortly after by Guy Ritchie, but at least this film introduced us to Ewan McGregor & Danny Boyle.
