Review of Trainspotting (1996) by Brian C — 28 May 2016
The most non-biased look at heroin culture I've seen. It's energetic and stylish, even downright cool in a lot of ways, simulating the effects of the drugs for the viewer. It also doesn't skimp on the inevitable darkness and depravity the lifestyle results in, but it doesn't hammer the horror down your throat like a one-sided "DARE" commercial.
What separates this brilliantly entertaining film from other drug movies is that it isn't afraid to acknowledge the fact that drugs feel really, really good; a dangerous fact to portray in such an entertaining manner, but it's the cold hard truth.
Despite that, anyone who wants to try heroin because of this movie wasn't really watching it.
