Review of Trainspotting (1996) by Angelique A — 24 Sep 2011
Trainspotting is noteworthy for putting both Danny Boyle and Ewan McGregor on the map, but it is also one of the most effective films about addicts. Boyle's sublime visual style creates some unforgettable sequences, a perfect complement with the slick writing and largely unknown cast at that time, whose interactions forge the story's backbone.
Trainspotting doesn't necessarily judge its characters or have a big message, it simply shows addiction for what it is and the extreme consequences that often result, with an ever so slight glimmer of hope at the end.
