Review of Training Day (2001) by Byron B — 07 Mar 2013
It's been nearly twelve years since this was released. Director Fuqua and writer Ayer are still working solidly. The script's street smarts are greatly helped by the colorful bunch of actors bringing the characters to life.
Plenty of twists as rookie Jake (Hawke) decides how much he wants to be like Detective Harris (Washington). Jake has a family and a good heart, but can he overcome his straitlaced Academy training to survive amidst L.
A.'s street justice and corruption in the narcotics squad? Lots of tension and gritty camerawork.
