Review of Training Day (2001) by Matt M — 06 Jan 2014
Training Day is an intense film about police corruption in downtown Los Angeles that differentiates itself from other films of the genre through its intensity and its stylish approach. The story is about a rookie cop who goes on a 24-hour intensive training on the streets with a cop who is not as straight as he appears to be.
The screenplay is intelligent and what appears to be the usual cop buddy police flick soon ends up being a fast, down and gritty film with a quality elevated by electric performances by Denzel Washington, who won the Oscar for best actor for his performance in this film, and Ethan Hawke.
