Review of Training Day (2001) by Chris R — 20 Jan 2016
A stylish and compelling police drama propelled by Denzel Washington's Oscar-winning performance. Although there are some major plot holes throughout and its plausibility is highly questionable, the film is consistently on fire, especially when Washington and Hawke go head to head with each other.
I liked Fuqua's directing style, the fillm's kinetic energy, and the two strong central performances. The ending is not quite satisfying, but everything else is damn good. Training Day is flawed and can be uncomfortable at times, but the performances alone make this taut, thought-provoking thriller worth seeing.
