Review of Training Day (2001) by Danny C — 09 Sep 2010
Training Day takes place over a 24 hour period or so and is the story of young LAPD cop Jake Hoyt. Denzel plays Alonzo, a veteran crooked narcotics detective who shows Jake the ropes a bit and attempts to bring him in on the schemes.
Denzel's performance proves he's one of the greatest actors of our time and he can pretty much act any role given to him. Alonzo steals drugs and money while cooperating with gangsters and drug dealers to elevate his business. He has everyone in on the scheme except for Jake.
I'm sure by now everyone has seen it and the ending is absolutely less than amazing but the rest of the film is superb. It even features a short boob scene with Eva Mendes, and you just can't go wrong there. 80% based on the very intense story but less than stellar ending.
