Review of Train to Busan (2016) by Tal G — 08 Apr 2018
A bit full of cliches, but still really well done. Just a solid zombie movie.
Nothing about this movie broke new ground in the zombie genre, but everything it did was done with a lot of care. The zombies looked amazing, the makeup was pretty incredible. The movements of the zombie actors were also great. The pace of the movie is pretty good, doesn't relent.
The acting was just ok. Everybody played a very specific cliche, with not much nuance or subtlety. It's fine in a movie of this sort.
I really enjoyed and was intrigued by the blatant criticism towards higher ups in South Korea. I suppose corporations and government bigwigs? This movie wanted you to hate them so damn much. It was amusing.
It's just a really well done little zombie movie on a train. Has a solid emotional core to it as well. Perhaps it's a bit melodramatic, but that's Korean cinema for you.
