Review of Trading Places (1983) by Anthony K — 23 Dec 2018
A thoroughly ridiculous film that frankly insults one's intelligence with one outlandish scenario after another. It begins to truly grate when ridiculous things like, uh, conjuring then dismissing false IRS charges just kind of.
..happen. I guess it's supposed to be a fairy tale, a Prince and the Pauper, but the problem with Fairy Tales is that those get told to *children*, who are dumb enough to believe some of this tripe.
It also hurts the film that our co-protagonist refers to the other as 'some negro' even near the very end of his character arc. There are a few bright spots and funny moments (surprise John Belushi, the two guys carting around the ape), but for the most part it is a film which does not have a place in 2018.
