Review of Toys (1966) by Shantel J — 14 Sep 2012
This movie is brilliant, which of course will make it extraordinarily unpopular. It is deliberately constructed to put the viewer at odds with themselves as the absurdity of war faces off with the absurdity of fun as business. Overall the film asks the viewer very overtly "what happened to fun for its own sake?" as we are forced to watch the protagonist mature and adopt a real world cynicism in order to keep the real world out of the constructed fantasy he and the other characters exist in.
No, its not Transformers: Dark of the Moon or Twilight. This is a real movie. You actually have to think about it a little bit.
Again, brilliant.
