Review of Toys (1966) by Brad C — 31 Jan 2011
Weird. Weird. Weird. Weird. Strange. I mean, I just don't understand how an acclaimed director and a bizarre yet talented ensemble of actors could collaborate in order to produce... this. I mean it really is a this.
I can't describe it. It's so flawed, it feeds off of it. It doesn't apologize, it takes the simple story, adds spectacle and grand set design, a bit of humor, wit, and varying performances from people all over the spectrum, to give you the movie you DON'T need to see.
I'd say a blemish on the careers of these people but in the behind the scenes, they were all having a lot of fun. A childhood passion project that was right to have been forgotten. On the bright side, there is some charm.
