This third installment co-scripted by Michael Arndt ("Little Miss Sunshine") turns out to be a surprisingly dark evocation of Steven Spielberg's "A.I.: Artificial Intelligence" (2001), readdressing the fear-of-abandonment theme, and it has several chuckle.
