Review of Toy Story 2 (1999) by Matthew D — 14 Aug 2012
Movie Matt here with Toy Story 2. I know some people were thinking that I was kinda harsh on the first one & I admit it. Here's a little background: Set after the first film, this takes a "toynap" angle when Woody is stolen by a crooked (debatable) toy store owner, prompting Buzz & the rest of the gang to go rescue him while Woody learns why he was "toynapped" in the first place.
Toy Story 2 takes a more darker route than the first one did because here, the question is "What happens when toys get outgrown?" Woody knows that he will get outgrown along with Buzz but is willing to let time take its' course but once he finds out about his past, he is faced with a moral choice: Stay with his new friends or go back with his old ones.
TS2 is more darker than the first one & for good reason because it deals with some more mature themes which is a good thing. I liked it (along with the first one) & I'm sure the kiddies will too.
Stay tuned for Toy Story 3.
