Review of Tower Heist (2011) by Robert I — 06 Jul 2013
Acceptable Cable afternoon fare. Not too brilliant. A couple impossibilities that take you right out of the movie. Stiller's character is kept intentionally empty, but that in turn makes him an unsympathetic protagonist.
This movie, thanks to the cast, cost $75 million. It looks like $30 million at the most. Despite being an "original" movie, I don't understand how the stars aligned for this one. Why'd Brett Ratner direct? He does an acceptable job, but he shoots it really cheaply without any flair (which some will see as a good thing).
The script was quickly written to cash in on the ponzi scheme hoopla of a couple years ago and does not have anything cleaver going for it. There's no laughs despite being listed as a comedy. But it's not terrible.
.. So I recommend you watch it: In a hotel, waiting for your family to get finished getting ready for whatever reason you are doing out of town in.
