Review of Towelhead (2008) by Debra M — 28 Sep 2008
What a stellar script written by Alan Ball, creator of the HBO series Six Feet Under and True Blood. You could almost consider this a companion piece to his award winning screenplay for American Beauty.
Towelhead covers a lot of ground. Racism, sexism, objectification of women and the confusing messages we send girls in American culture are just some of the many issues the film tackles. Some scenes can be difficult to watch, but are essential to Jasira's story and boy does the film spark some great discussion when you leave the theater.
My wife and I are still talking about it.
