Review of Towelhead (2008) by Rose E — 15 Oct 2008
Aaargh. Very bold and very hard to watch. It's very frank in its depictions of the good and bad sides of confusing sexuality; the honesty is refreshing, but sometimes it's almost too ugly to stand.
Eckhart is startlingly good at being unpleasant, and newcomer Summer Bishil holds her own really nicely. (And the always awesome Toni Collette is, of course, awesome.) The ending message manages to not be too corny; the way she takes control of her sexuality may seem premature, but it's realistic and edgy.
