Alan Ball tackles a difficult subject with welcome honesty, and is accompanied by brave performances from Summer Bishil and Aaron Eckhart. However, the film's messages sometimes seem mixed (and arguably irresponsible), and Towelhead ranks as one of Ball's minor works.
