Review of Towelhead (2008) by Cory W — 08 Jul 2009
And I thought my life was awkward. Towelhead is one of those frank coming of age stories, which is pretty embarrassing and uncomfortable at times-- who am I kidding? THE ENTIRE TIME. DO NOT watch this with parents.
Like Writer/Director Alan Ball's masterpiece American Beauty, it tackles sensitive subjects: sex, pedophiles, suburbia, physical and emotional insecurities, and, as the title suggests, racial issues.
The actors in this film are amazing, from newcomer Summer Bishil to the awesome (and playing it risky here) Aaron Eckhart. This candid film strikes chords of reminiscence with me, and there were times when I was like: STORY OF MY LIFE.
Don't worry. No need to call Child Protection Services. :P.
