Review of Towelhead (2008) by Kong M — 25 Nov 2009
A really challenging little film, not a lot is redeemable about the characters and one wonders if the humanity shining through at the end is enough. Still a really worthy film about teenagers, adults and the great forbidden subject sex.
My 16 year old watched this and squirmed all the way through it. I'm glad he's watched it, its thought provoking and a good way to discuss these issues. The Thomas Newman score doing a 'sounds like' a Thomas Newman American Beauty score was nice but not uniqueness in the way it was in Beauty.
But I like films that make you uncomfortable, that challenge you, its dark humor disarms you. Good performances that one wonders, if a more experienced director could of made great. Not a great film but a really good film worth watching.
