Review of Touching the Void (2003) by Martin S — 17 Nov 2006
A new kind of mountaineering movie, which is realistic because in difference to "vertical limit" (nice takes of the landscape) or "hang on - cliffhanger" (good stunt-double scenes with wolfgang güllich) its main component is not the action in a way of special effects. the original scene and the narrating comments to every scene by the original survivors (joe simpson, simon yates Richard Hawking) and the missing special effects (although you don't miss them) or exaggerations make it easy for the observer to feel as if he was there himself and watching joe simpson and his torture with his own eyes.
This realistical character makes the movie so exciting and interesting in every minute - not only for alpinists/climbers!
