Review of Touching the Void (2003) by Franz P — 16 Sep 2007
I can't believe this film was based on a true story. I can't imagine the torture, the cold, and the hardship that the mountaineers went through in order to survive. There were really exciting moments from this film that made me go, "Oh my God! What are you going to do now?" This movie made me weak to my stomach and knees; at times I had to look away due to the horror of seeing what is actually happening.
I have to give kudos to the director for making such an ambitious film. Did they film it in actual blizzard or were most of it simulated? Either way, everything looks so natural. I love the way nature became alive, as if it's also one of the characters we're supposed to observe.
I'm glad to have seen this film. You can bet your bottom dollar that I won't be doing any mountain climbing in this lifetime!
