Review of Touching the Void (2003) by Seth M — 11 Feb 2008
Boy, what a terrible trip for Simpson. This poor guy overcomes pretty much every challenge that could befall a climber. I'm surprised the man didn't get attacked by a pack of wolves while he was up there. Though through it all he perseveres.
Frankly I found the movie a bit blandly shot. It might have been interesting to see this shot as a normal movie, not a reenactment. But sadly, when Hollywood says "based on a true story" they usually muck it up with falsities. This is a story that needs no such exaggeration.
This one gets a 3 star for me, because there is really nothing to get from a second viewing and the movie is a bit slow at parts.
