Review of Touching the Void (2003) by Kyle F — 28 Jul 2008
A great documentary film about the famous (in the mountaineering community, anyways) hike of Joe Simpson and Simon Yates on the West face of Siula Grande in the Peruvian Andes. The film is absolutely gorgeous with sweeping views of the snowy peaks of Siula Grande and the surrounding mountain ranges (it was filmed on location) and it delivers an intimate look at both of the climbers without judging either of them for their highly controversial actions.
The story itself is truly gut-wrenching; it is able to establish itself as a testament of friendship and human endurance. An inspiring film that is guaranteed to raise eyebrows.
