Review of Touching the Void (2003) by Dawid J — 05 Apr 2011
Compelling and brilliant documentary about an astoishing feat of survival and determination. The film is so involving that intercutting of dramatisation and real-life interviews feels almost seamless. Both Yates and Simpson come across as flawed but compelling characters, and perhaps their separate interviews (they're never shown together) is telling.
The physical traumas they undergo are almost beyond words, and the reconstrution of those terrible days are fantastic.
