Review of Touching the Void (2003) by Stefan L — 13 Oct 2011
The talke of two british mountaineers who set off to climb Siula Grande in the Peruvian Andes. This is a story of survival as the two climbers scale on of the most dangerous mountains in the world. Touching the Void is a documentary about survival and is done in a rather basic but effective way.
The film involves the two actors telling their story and their feelings throughout this horrific journey which is cross cut with a filmed reenactment of the story. The reenactment is really well done and really captures the beauty, horror and psychological mindset of what it may have been like to be one of those hikers.
Its well shot, showing both wide scope of what the hikers were up against and well as extreme closeups like lingering on a characters freezing hand, or his shoe spikes clinging on to the side of the mountain.
Just an incredible true story that is well told.
