Review of Touch of Evil (1958) by Ben W — 05 Jan 2008
Technically spellbinding, but Heston's portrayal of a mexican detective rings false (even if he makes a good noir detective), and the plot lacks the hook and intrigue of other noir classics. Regardless, Welles is a masterful corrupt cop, and Marlene Deitrich (in limited on-screen time) veils her character in a fantastic cloud of smoky seductiveness.
