If you want to watch this noir masterpeice make sure its Walter Murchs version which dispatches with the credits over that brilliant tracking shot.

This is the version that Welles wanted before Universal took the film away from him and Murch has gone back and put all the missing bits back in.

True Heston is not the worlds greatest actor But Welles as Corrupt Cop Hank Quinlan and wondeful cameos from Joseph Cotten,Mecedes McCambridge ,Dennis Weaver and Of course Marlene Dietrich (who delivers the brilliant final line of dialogue in the film).

Also its easy to see where Directors like De Palma,Coppola ,Altman and others drew there inspiration from.

Welles was a true maverick and this film shows why.

A noir masterpiece and a film that demands repeated viewing.
